Drawing Across the Disciplines: Zines Webinar – Nov. 5, 2025
Session Description
November 5 2025 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
The Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS) presents the next session in the Drawing Across the Disciplines series. In this session, we explore zines—self-published, often hand-made, small edition publications. Zines are historically linked to fanzines and political movements from the 1960s publications and typically use found images and photocopies as the means of production. Zines are an accessible, low cost, and sustainable way of creating research and archives.
As with past the Drawing Across the Discipline sessions, this webinar will be followed by a hands-on, limited enrolment workshop on Dec. 3rd 9:15-1:00pm (EST) at the CRIS Collaborative space. The workshop will focus on how to get started making zines, will showcase best practices for creating zine workshops for research teams, and collecting zines. Link to registration form to come.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the webinar participants will be able to:
- Compare disciplinary uses of zines in research programs
- Distinguish how zines function in specific scholarly contexts
- Describe different ways of generating zines across disciplines and research projects
