Community-Engaged Research Speaker Series: Community Research Data Toolkit – Mar. 11, 2026

Join the Centre for Research & Innovation Support for an engaging and informative session on the Community Research Data Toolkit, featuring guest speakers Danica Evering, Research Data Management Specialist, and Subhanya Sivajothy, Data Analysis and Visualization Librarian from McMaster University Libraries.
This session is part of a series designed for researchers who want to deepen both the theoretical and practical dimensions of community engaged research. It offers an opportunity to connect with colleagues across the tri campus, exchange insights, and strengthen the societal and scholarly impact of collaborative research.
The presenters will provide an overview of the main components of the toolkit. Following an interactive overview, presenters will save some time to workshop challenges and possibilities through a set of applicable case studies. Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a Q and A session.
Audience: Faculty members and their research teams at University of Toronto, both curious about, and/or experienced with, community engaged research who are interested in deepening their learning about collaborative approaches to research and data management practices. Learning Objectives
After participating in the session, participants will be able to:
- Summarize research data management best practices and what data management plans and data deposit look like in community-based research;
- Find available tools, training, and guidance for managing community research data; and
- Consider if the tools are a good fit to support community control of data in your work.
Additional Information
The Community Research Data Toolkit is designed to help communities, along with the organizations and researchers they partner with, understand key principles of research data management. The toolkit includes:- Practical tools and resources, including templates and examples for developing data management plans as conversations for building trust
- Clear roles and responsibilities for researchers, community members, and data professionals that are coming together for a research project
- Guidance on long-term data storage and stewardship to ensure research data remains accessible and responsibly managed, including data access committees and community control of data.
