Collaborations can expand what is possible in research by bringing together diverse expertise, relationships, and perspectives. Their success is rarely based on just the quality of ideas, but how discussions are facilitated. Most researchers already spend a significant portion of their time facilitating collaborative work, yet the principles and skills involved in convening, aligning, and moving groups forward often go unnamed or unsupported.
Join us for the return to our CRIS Facilitation for Researchers 101 series, where we connect the theory of effective facilitation to the kinds of engagements researchers regularly navigate, like team meetings, grant writing, partnership conversations, and community consultations. This online workshop will highlight practical tools and strategies and identify opportunities to integrate them into collaborative research work.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Recognize facilitation as a practice already embedded in their research work rather than a specialized skill reserved for professional facilitators
- Understand and apply three principles for designing and leading collaborative sessions more effectively.
- Identify a facilitative practice they already use and can build on in their ongoing collaborative work.
- Locate and adapt existing facilitation resources and templates to suit the needs of their own collaborative research contexts
