Faculty Roundtable: Fostering Anti-oppressive Approaches to Community Engaged Research & Learning in the Academy – Feb. 03, 2023

The Centre for Community Partnerships (CCP) and the Centre for Research and Innovation Support (CRIS) invite you to attend a roundtable focused on community-engaged learning (CEL) and community engaged research (CER). This roundtable will bring together faculty from across the University of Toronto to discuss anti-oppressive approaches to CER and CEL in the academy.  Anti-oppressive approaches to research can include a range of research practices (e.g., anti-racist and decolonizing methodologies, participatory action research, emancipatory research) that broadly share common principles including a commitment to reflective practice, recognizing power and privilege, and co-creating change at local and global levels.  

This discussion-oriented roundtable will focus on how faculty researchers and instructors foster and substantively support anti-oppressive approaches to CEL and/or CER in the academy, how they prepare students for this work, and what some of the impacts are for everyone involved. Each panelist will speak for 5-7 minutes on this roundtable topic before opening up the discussion among panelists and attendees.
