NSERC-Alliance: What We’ve Learned So Far, What We Still Need To Know – Dec. 9, 2020

Session Description

December 9, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am EST

The NSERC-Alliance program launched one year ago, consolidating several previous Research Partnerships programs (Collaborative Research & Development, Engage, Industrial Research Chairs, Strategic Partnership Grants etc.) into a single program stream.

Hosted by the Innovations & Partnerships Office (IPO) this session will explore lessons learned from our early applications under both Option 1 and Option 2, and what questions remain.

This session is targeted to inform U of T Investigators interested in applying for NSERC-Alliance grants. NSERC personnel will be available to answer your specific questions at the start of this session, following which we will host an internal panel discussion featuring researchers who have insights to share from their own application experiences. Our panelists include:

  • Professor Aimy Bazylak (Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) - Received one of UofT’s first NSERC-Alliance awards;
  • Professor Matthew Roorda (Civil & Mineral Engineering) - Recently received our largest NSERC-Alliance award to date: a multi-institutional, multi-partner research study of freight logistics;
  • Professor Harry Ruda (Materials Science & Engineering) - has already received multiple NSERC-Alliance awards

Researchers are also strongly encouraged to attend one of the NSERC-Alliance Info sessions first or review their slides, Preparing an NSERC Alliance Grant Application, to address more general questions about the NSERC-Alliance application procedures and program updates. We also recommend reviewing the Alliance FAQs.
