Social Media Lessons Learned from Being a Public Facing Academic – Oct 28, 2021

The JHI is excited to offer a 90-minute Twitter workshop led by Jooyoung Lee.

This year’s social media workshop is aimed specifically at BIPOC academics who want to get their research out into the public sphere. BIPOC social media users often face additional challenges and this workshop will address those challenges in more depth. Attendees will have the chance to introduce themselves and their research, as well as participate in a Q&A session after the presentation. The workshop is open to U of T graduate students, pre and post docs, and faculty whose research has an emphasis on the humanities and social sciences.

Jooyoung Lee is an Associate Professor of Sociology and faculty member at the Centre for the Study of the United States, University of Toronto. He is also Senior Fellow in the Yale University Urban Ethnography Project and an International Scholar at the Penn Injury Science Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jooyoung is the author of Blowin’ Up: Rap Dreams in South Central, which won the Cooley Book Award from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. He has also published articles in the New York Times, CNN, VICE, Globe and Mail, and other news outlets. Most recently, he was in documentaries that aired on Oxygen and Discovery ID.
