SSHRC Partnership Development Grants – Models and Strategies for Success – May 19, 2021

This event is part of a series of webinars designed to increase awareness and understanding of SSHRC Partnership Funding opportunities, and to encourage and support researchers with the planning and development of competitive proposals for these programs.   
In this session, faculty and staff will provide an overview of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant Program, share insights on key elements of competitive proposals, and share resources and strategies for successful proposal planning and development.  
The session will feature a panel of University of Toronto researchers who hold Partnership Development Grants.  Panelists will describe their partnership development grants, discuss their insights on the partnership and proposal planning and development process, and share practical tips and strategies that faculty can use to enhance their proposal development plans and funding proposals.

  • Carmen Logie, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work 
  • Edward Schatz, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Toronto Mississauga 
  • Jayeeta Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Historical and Cultural Studies, University of Toronto Scarborough 
  • Michael Smart, Professor, Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Science 
The session will conclude with an overview of support resources and processes (milestones) for proposal planning and development, and recommendations for next steps as faculty explore the opportunity.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:  
  • understand the scope and overview of the funding opportunity 
  • be informed by illustrative examples  
  • identify techniques and strategies to write a successful grant application 
  • know what steps to take to develop and plan their partnership and proposal 
  • know which resources and supports are available to support proposal planning and development, and   
  • work towards developing their partnership plans in anticipation of the fall proposal writing workshop.  
A follow up PDG Proposal Writing Workshop will be offered in mid-September.  This second workshop will offer a close review of the application requirements and proposal content, proposal adjudication and evaluation, and offer specific advice for writing and refining a PDG proposal.
