Understanding and Addressing Antisemitism at U of T: Rights, Responsibilities, and Inclusive Practices – Nov 23, 2026
Session Description
November 23 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
This workshop offers a foundational understanding of how antisemitism manifests in learning, working, and research environments at the University of Toronto and explores the University’s policy and legal responsibilities in addressing it. Premised on the Addressing Antisemitism at the University of Toronto web resource, and current human rights-related legislative frameworks, this session will help participants build awareness of the lived experiences of Jewish community members, including those who are Israeli, on campus. Participants will also learn to recognize examples of antisemitic discrimination and harassment and understand the processes for reporting and responding to such conduct.
In the session, participants will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of Jewish identities.
- Recognize how instances of antisemitism, discrimination and hate are understood within the University of Toronto’s policy and legal context including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Bill 166, and the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Through the use of interactive activities, identify and develop strategies to address conduct that may be regarded as antisemitic discrimination based on creed (e.g., religion), place of origin, or ethnic origin within the unique context of the postsecondary environment.
