Harnessing GenAI Tools for Qualitative Research: 2-Part Hands-on Workshop
Dates: December 2 & December 4, 2025
This two-part workshop series introduces researchers to emerging AI tools for qualitative data analysis and demonstrates how these technologies can enhance familiar stages of the analytic process, from data familiarization and coding to querying and interpretation. Led by Dr. Christina Silver, an internationally recognized expert in qualitative methods and digital research technologies, the series combines comparative discussions and illustrations with hands-on exercises using sample qualitative data.
The sessions will explore the capabilities of general-use AI chatbots as well as specialized qualitative AI tools. Participants will examine how these tools support common analytic tasks, how they integrate with other software features, and how researchers can critically assess their appropriate use within academic research contexts.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the different capabilities of tools such as MS Copilot, NVivo, and MAXQDA
- Develop skills in use of AI-assisted tools for common qualitative analysis processes
- Develop skills in harnessing AI in combination with other tools to assist analysis
- Develop the capacity to make informed decisions regarding appropriate choice and use of AI-assisted tools for qualitative analysis
Dates, Times, Location:
The two-part online workshop will take place on:
- Tuesday, December 2nd from 9:30am-1:00pm (Zoom)
- Thursday, December 4th from 9:30am-1:00pm (Zoom)
The two-part workshop will be conducted online and breaks will be provided throughout.
Participants commit to attending both sessions, barring unforeseen circumstances.
