Faculty Writing Accelerator: Journal Articles Winter 2027
Date: January 8 – April 2, 2027; 12 sessions
Make substantial, meaningful progress on your scholarly journal writing projects this Winter term. Join the Faculty Writing Accelerator: Journal Articles (Winter 2027) for a facilitated series of sessions featuring structured writing activities, short ‘Spark Talks’ by expert guest speakers who will share experiences with scholarly writing, editing, and help uncover the hidden curriculum of scholarly publishing, and dedicated co-writing for group accountability.
The weekly session topics are guided by relevant scholarship on scholarly writing (including selections from: Academic Writing as if Readers Matter, Write No Matter What, and Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks 2nd edition). The weekly sessions are focused on working together as a cohort and emphasize attainable, practical, goal setting for writing and publishing scholarly, peer-reviewed articles. Skills, tools, and resources shared in the program will propel participants’ writing practices into the summer with practical ways of ensuring writing time is protected and sustainable.
Participation will be capped at 24 faculty (including TASHn researchers) to focus on creating a supportive space to write together and to emphasize comradery, confidentiality, and accountability among peers.
Hear What Past Faculty Writing Accelerator Participants Say About the Program
- “…having FWA in my calendar every Friday did give me a sense of responsibility and accountability of a commitment to writing “something” every week. Thank you very much for this opportunity!”
- “I really appreciated the sustained interaction with colleagues from other disciplines. I don’t think there are enough opportunities for this at UofT. I was also surprised at how relevant guest speakers from very different disciplines were to my own work.”
- “I absolutely loved the concept for the program and the facilitators and guest speakers were simply fabulous.”
- “If you would like to have a scholarly contribution to the literature on your subject matter expertise or areas of practice, the FWA program is a must-do for you. You will never regret to be involved in this weekly commitment of writing, learning, and networking with your colleagues at U of T!”
- “Even though I have a lot of experience with academic writing, I learned a lot about how to be a better writer – both in terms of quality and productivity.”
Expectations and Commitments
Faculty participants will spend two hours weekly in synchronous sessions with the entire group. Participants should expect to spend an additional 3-5 hours per week working on their articles and completing program readings and activities. All accepted participants will receive a hard copy of the book Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks (2019) to be picked up in person at CRIS during the first session of the program on January 8, 2027.
