Fighting the Trolls: How Researchers can Navigate Online Spaces More Safely – Nov. 13, 2024

A poster for the University of Toronto's online session titled "Fighting the Trolls: How Researchers Can Navigate Online Spaces More Safely" on November 13, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, with registration at cris.utoronto.ca/events.

Session Description

November 13 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

The Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS) and The Conversation Canada are pleased to offer a newly created online workshop aimed at mitigating online harassment, trolling, and possible doxxing related to sharing research findings on social media and other digital platforms.

Unfortunately, this form of knowledge mobilization has resulted in scholars exposing themselves to the risk of unsafe online spaces. Sometimes used as an intimidation tactic to silence those who speak out against misinformation, and other times leveraged simply to silence marginalized voices, unsafe online spaces can have serious consequences. Because universities increasingly encourage scholars to do much of their research work online, scholars are left vulnerable.

This online workshop offers evidence-based strategies for scholars to mitigate the perils of online environments.
