Visualizing Data Networks (Gephi)

Session Description

April 11 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Please, check out other Fun Data Friday events.

  • What: Learn the basics of how networks, as in groups of entities with relationships, are visualized. We will discuss the appropriate terminology used when working with this data. Look at where open network datasets can be discovered and use Gephi to visualize and analyze this data.
  • Why: Whether referring to groups of dolphins interacting in their pods, relationships of movies to movie stars, or commonalities in a psychological study. Visualizing associations and relationships between entities can provide new insights into the data you have collected.
  • Software: Gephi is the leading visualization and exploration software for all kinds of graphs and networks. Gephi is Open-Source and FREE to use.
  • Who: This workshop is designed for those interested in better understanding biological networks, social networks, or link analysis. Participants from any discipline can participate: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences are encouraged to participate. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge.
  • How: This is a 2 hour in-person workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with activities we will complete together and discuss. There are no breaks.
  • Where: This workshop will be held in The BRIDGE Data Lab (IC 108)
  • When: Friday, April 11, 3-5:00pm.
