Live Discussion: Community-Based Research and the COVID-19 Pandemic with CBRCanada

Session Description

September 17, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm EDT

During the spring of 2020, Community-Based Research Canada hosted three live discussions entitled ‘Exploring challenges in conducting community-based research at a distance’. At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic had challenged practitioners to conduct research with communities at a distance, (a very strange but required way), because of pandemic-related restrictions.

Now, eighteen months later, we are at another crossroads. This fall brings new transitions and uncertainties as many of us return to physical workplaces, meeting rooms, or community organizations – however in different configurations than before. Many community-based research practices have changed over the course of the pandemic. Many have stayed the same. The impacts of COVID-19 on widening inequities (and multiple syndemics) also loom large.

Join CBRCanada in conversation to “look forward” to meaningful and impactful community-based research by “looking back” over the past 18-months. This event will be a live online discussion moderated by CBRCanada. The floor will be opened to you and other members to meet, reflect and hear each others’ hopes, fears, worries, and provocations. We want to problem-solve and support each other. The event will be structured via a mix of breakout and large group discussions, guided by key questions and a shared google document.

This live discussion will also launch Community Based Research Canada’s fall/winter 2021-2022 webinar and live discussion series. The theme for this upcoming series is Community-Based Research and COVID-19, with a focus on widening inequities and community-based visions for change. We look forward to your input and your ideas in shaping this series!
