Community of practice meetings actively bring together CBRCanada members from across Canada and beyond to engage in meaningful discussions. All involved in community-based research are welcome, whether you are a researcher, peer-researcher, student, project coordinator, administrator, director, or community leader. The purpose of the community of practice is to network with others, learn from each other, and exchange best practices.
Exploring Indigenous Research Methods is an introduction to Indigenous research, specifically its methods, ethical considerations, and underlying methodologies. This session is a brief look at how Indigenous scholars have thought through the mechanisms of western research, decolonized those mechanisms, and sought to reassert and rebuild their own forms of knowledge production based on the traditional Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
Guest Speaker:
Elora Gehue is an Indigenous woman from Sipekne’katik First Nation. Elora has worked with the Coady Institute at Saint Francis Xavier University as an Indigenous community-based researcher, researching racism in the labour unions in Nova Scotia. Elora is also an experienced researcher, having worked in government administration and private organizations, with a focus on Indigenous capacity building and human resource development for diversity and inclusion. Elora is currently a Master’s student writing a thesis in Lifelong Learning at Mount Saint Vincent University, and lives in Halifax with her three children.
This event is hosted by Community-Based Research Canada.
