The Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS) presents the next session in our series: Drawing Across the Disciplines: Podcasts. In this session, we explore the full range of podcasting’s potential: from how to be guest on one, to how to conceptualize and host one, to how to sustain a multi-season show. Our expert panelists will discuss how they’ve leveraged podcasts in their scholarly work to share their research findings as well as share concrete tips on starting, hosting, and maintaining a podcast.

As with past Drawing Across the Discipline sessions, this webinar will be followed by a two-part, hands-on workshop. The workshop will cover technical aspects of recording sound and learning how to use the MADlab-CRIS sound booth that is equipped with a USB mic and headphones. In part two, participants will examine principles of good storytelling and will begin using exercises like storyboarding to structure their podcasts while also exploring the research affordances of podcasts. Learning Objectives

At the end of the webinar participants will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of scholarly podcasting as a guest, host, and/or creator
  • Explore how to use guest appearances on podcasts to disseminate recent research findings and publications
  • Be able to identify podcasting resources available across the tri-campus including hardware to options for digital preservation and archiving of audio files
  • Recognize opportunities to co-create podcasts with U of T colleagues
  • Differentiate elements of podcasting that are unique affordances of this medium
  • Compare different disciplinary uses of podcasts
