This webinar series is intended for faculty who are supervising graduate students and who are interested in enhancing their supervisory practices. Each webinar in the series offers a contained topic so participants are welcome to join for one or all three webinars! The student-supervisor relationship is a key factor in determining a successful and satisfying graduate experience. The School of Graduate Studies publishes the Graduate Supervision Guidelines with editions for faculty and students to help both navigate the landscape of graduate supervision. This webinar provides an overview of the guidelines with an emphasis on how they can be used to establish expectations, promote communication, and define supervisory relationships that are satisfying for students and supervisors.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • elements of a good supervisory relationship
  • goals and expectations in mentoring and supervision
  • responsibilities of student, supervisory, graduate unit and SGS
  • diversity and equity considerations in graduate supervision
