In 2024, the University of Toronto Libraries subscribed to new AI assistants in the popular scientific research databases Scopus and Web of Science. This 1-hour webinar provides an introduction to the Scopus AI and Web of Science Research Assistant (RA) search engines. Participants will learn how these tools work; get familiar with their features and functions; and through a guided, hands-on exploration of the tools, practice using them and critically evaluating their output.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the differences between an AI search engine and an AI chatbot
- Articulate the benefits and pitfalls when including them in your literature reviews and other purposes
- Recall the features and basic functions of Scopus AI and Web of Science RA
- Use Scopus AI or Web of Science RA effectively to answer a scientific question and find references
- Critically evaluate the output of Web of Science RA or Scopus AI
Additional Information
Prior experience using scientific research databases is helpful but not required.
