Introduction to Using NVivo 14/15 for Qualitative Data Analysis (Mac Version) – Nov. 20, 2024

Session Description

November 20 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

  • What: Learn to use a market-leading, point-and-click qualitative data management and analysis tool, NVivo, by working through some typical steps of a qualitative data analysis research project, such as loading in data, coding, running queries, and exporting.
  • Why: Learning qualitative data analysis skills and tools will help you organize or participate in qualitative research projects, gain insights into your qualitative data, help you communicate your findings, and make you stand out in the job market.
  • Software: Faculty, staff, and students at the University of Toronto can get a free license key for NVivo. Note: NVivo 14 & 15 are nearly identical, except that NVivo 15 has a new AI assistant feature. Either version can be used for this workshop; however, NVivo works differently on Macs vs PCs. If you are running NVivo on a PC, you should attend the Introduction to NVivo 14/15 (Windows Version) workshop instead.
  • Who: This workshop is designed for those new to NVivo 14/15. Skills gained can help participants from any discipline: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge of statistics or programming.
  • How: This is a 2.5-hour in-person workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with self-paced activities. There will be one 10-minute break in the middle.
  • Where: Electronic classroom on the 4th floor of Robarts Library (room 4033). [NOTE: This computer lab only has Windows Computers. For this workshop, you will need to bring in your own Mac laptop with NVivo already installed in order to participate in the activities.]
  • Code of Conduct: Map & Data Library (MDL) workshops are a welcoming and inclusive environment for learning. To learn more, check out our Code of Conduct.
  • Accessibility: The MDL is committed to making our workshops accessible to everyone. If you require an accommodation to fully participate in the workshop, please contact Kelly Schultz (kelly.schultz@utoronto.ca) to discuss options.
