JHI How-to: Mitacs for Humanities – Jan. 17, 2024

Session Description

January 17 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

Humanities faculty! Are you wondering how Mitacs funding can benefit your research? Are you already holding a SSHRC grant and considering how to leverage it into additional funds? Learn more about this unique opportunity to fund your collaborative research at this JHI workshop, which will feature a short presentation from Mitacs Advisor Hayley McKay on the Accelerate and Globalink programs and a live demonstration of the Accelerate application process.

Mitacs is a national not-for-profit organization and an integral part of Canada’s research funding ecosystem, supporting multiple disciplines across the humanities and social sciences, as well as STEM and social innovation. This partner-based program can fund undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to work on research projects in partnership with a partner organization or help you recruit a research intern from a Mitacs partner country. Mitacs has also formed a unique partnership with SSHRC to seamlessly create Accelerate internships for humanities and social sciences graduate students working on SSHRC-funded projects.

Faculty speakers Shafique Virani (Historical & Cultural Studies, UTSC) and Mary Elizabeth Luka (Arts, Media & Culture, UTSC) will share the value of Mitacs funding for their research and for the humanities and social sciences community more broadly, their practical experiences and recommendations for assembling a Mitacs application, and best practices for working with a partner organization.
