Moving the Dial On: Housing Affordability & Advocacy

Session Description

May 18, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Community-Based Research Canada presents “Moving the Dial”: our 2023 E-Learning series. This series will highlight action-oriented community-based research that is ‘moving the dial’ on today’s pressing societal challenges. An important hallmark of community-based research, taking an action-orientated and impactful approach, means research partnerships mobilizing knowledge and mobilizing communities towards positive societal change. The research projects highlighted within this series demonstrate impact of community-based research. We will hear about research partnerships that facilitated actions improving societal conditions, including changes in policies, systems, organizations, and communities where everyone is supported and belongs.

This webinar will delve into a community-based participatory research study “South Etobicoke Housing Affordability”, led by Salomeh Ahmadi, Humber College, in partnership with LAMP Community Health Centre that focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of the most marginalized in South Etobicoke (Toronto), specifically low-income, seniors and students who face housing affordability issues.

There are many issues standing in the way of affordable housing in cities across Canada. They pose threats to those facing poverty, health challenges, and others including working-class citizens, students, and seniors. This webinar will not only document the problems, but it will explore ways to leverage research results in advocating for policy changes.
