Moving Beyond the Monograph: Podcasting as Scholarly Publishing – Mar. 22, 2022
Session Description
March 22, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm
Scholars across the disciplines use a range of media to communicate and amplify their research and findings. Podcasts are rapidly becoming one of the most used ways of creating greater research impact, reaching new audiences, and disseminating knowledge beyond the lecture halls and academic journals. Podcasting offers new creative ways of conceiving and broadcasting knowledge and also presents scholars new challenges in acquiring new skills to work with audio technologies.
This session will be a conversation with Siobhan McMenemy, Senior Editor at Wilfrid Laurier University Press, examining her seminal work on scholarly academic podcasts, developing a peer review process, and the intersections she sees of scholarly publishing and podcasting for the future. McMenemy will be joined in the conversation with Dr. Elizabeth Parke, Senior Research Associate for Collaborative Digital Research and Digital Humanities specialist.
Scholars interested in starting a scholarly podcast will learn how to begin the process. Advanced scholarly podcasters will find ways to initiate a peer review process and account for and promote this scholarly activity.
