Project & Trainee Management for Humanities Projects — Nov. 15, 2023
Session Description
November 15, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Funding agencies increasingly prioritize high-quality research trainee mentorship, and research projects are becoming more complex. As a Humanities Principal Investigator, you may find yourself learning trainee and project management skills on the fly as your project progresses.
This JHI workshop and faculty roundtable discussion will provide a framework of best practices for developing project work plans and timelines, distributing tasks across research team members, and mentoring research assistants as they work to bring your project from an idea into reality.
With faculty guest speakers:
- Carl Knappett (Department of Archaeology & PI of The Aegean Material Culture Lab)
- Cillian O’Hogan (Centre for Medieval Studies & PI on a JHI-funded Scholars-in-Residence project)
- Karen Ruffle (Historical Studies UTM and Department for the Study of Religion & PI of a JHI-UTM Seminar and a Mellon Foundation Sawyer Seminar)
Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, you will have a greater understanding of:
- How to incorporate Research Assistants (RAs) into Humanities research projects
- How to create mentorship opportunities that develop your RA’s own research goals
- How to nurture an inclusive, multidisciplinary and intergenerational community of researchers
