Constellate Class FAQ:
What is text analysis? Text analysis is the process of examining text data computationally to uncover patterns, trends, or relationships within the content. For example, you could compare how frequently the term “mother” appears versus “father” in the context of foster care, and how this changes over time.
Why learn text analysis? From “big data” to ChatGPT, text analysis and large language models are changing the way we learn and do research. Text analysis is changing the nature of academic research. Is your institution ready? Constellate helps you get up to speed on text analysis and unlock new methods.
What is Constellate? Constellate, the new text and data analytics service from JSTOR and Portico, is the only text analysis platform that integrates access to scholarly content and open educational resources into a cloud-based lab to help faculty more easily and effectively teach text analysis and data skills.
What software do I need on my machine? None! The Constellate platform can be accessed entirely from your browser. You do not need to install any software on your computer.
What disciplines should be interested in text analysis? All! Text analysis research is done across all disciplines, from identifying the impact of genes on medicines, to tracking the development of new areas of research in history. Even more importantly, the computational literacy skills that come with text analysis are a future key requirement.
Do I need to bring any materials or install software on my computer? No!
