Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis: Beyond the Basics
Session Description
October 15 2026 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
- What: Building upon the Introduction to Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis workshop, learn to use some of MAXQDA’s analysis and visualization tools, and how to work with document variables.
- Why: Learning qualitative data analysis skills and tools will help you organize and participate in qualitative research projects, gain insights into your data, communicate your findings, and stand out in the job market.
- Software: Faculty, staff, and students at the University of Toronto can now get a free license key for MAXQDA. Check out our installation guide for instructions. You can also use it in the Robarts Library 4th floor computer lab and the Map & Data Library (MDL) data lab on the 5th floor.
- Who: This workshop is designed for those new to MAXQDA’s analysis and visualization tools, and its document variables features, but assumes basic knowledge of using MAXQDA to load in data and work with codes. This prior knowledge can be obtained by first taking the Introduction to Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis workshop. Skills gained in this workshop can help participants working with qualitative data from any discipline: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge of statistics or programming.
- When: Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, 2-4pm
- Where: MDL Data Lab, 5th floor of Robarts Library (Room 5031)
- How: This is a 2-hour in-person workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with self-paced activities. There will be a short break in the middle.
- Code of Conduct: Map & Data Library (MDL) workshops are a welcoming and inclusive environment for learning. To learn more, check out our Code of Conduct.
- Accessibility: The MDL is committed to making our workshops accessible to everyone. If you require an accommodation to fully participate in the workshop, please contact Kelly Schultz (kelly.schultz@utoronto.ca) to discuss options.
