“Whatquantum computing can do for quantum chemistry” with Professor Artur Izmaylov

Quantum computing is a new emerging technology that isdeemed to revolutionize many computational fields. In this talk, I will mainlyfocus on quantum chemistry. Quantum chemistry poses a challenging mathematicalproblem whose computational cost scales exponentially with the size of theconsidered system unless some heuristic approximations are done. Suchapproximations form a core of quantum chemistry on a classical computer andallow one to study electronic properties of matter practically. One of the mostpressing questions in the community is whether quantum computing can provide asubstantial advantage for the quantum chemistry problem. This is the questionthat will be addressed in my talk, I also discuss the most successful currentand future quantum algorithms for solving the quantum chemistry problem on aquantum computer.
