“Biodiversity and Urban Green Spaces – Trade-Offs, Synergies,and Ways Forward” with Professor Scott MacIvor

Ascities expand, our dependency on urban green spaces (UGSs) to connect people tonature, provide recreation, support biodiversity, and generate ecosystemservices increases. UGSs range in type from remnant areas such as parks andravines to constructed green infrastructure like green roofs and bioswales.These fall along a continuum of human-focused to biodiversity-focused design,leading to trade-offs. In our research, we seek out synergies that supportpeople and biodiversity using ecological principles and partnerships withpractitioners, land managers, and community members. In this talk, I’ll presentfindings from our lab and discuss implications for design, management, andpolicy.
