If you are looking for a more in-depth activity to help new members get to know your team, this is a great activity for you! For a team of approximately 10 people, you will want to allocate at least 45 minutes for this activity.

This activity allows each member to share:

  • about their role on the team and what they enjoy helping with;
  • something they enjoy doing outside of work; and
  • a question they have about the team that they might not have had a chance to ask yet! For example, they might ask about a project or a process. These questions can be used as topics for future meetings.

Getting Started:

  • If your group is larger than 10 people, set up groups with both returning and new members and display the template for the attendees to follow along with sticky notes (i.e., chart paper if in person, or a virtual whiteboard if online).

  • The questions can be customized and curated for your team. We recommend three questions: (i) a question about what they enjoy contributing to the team (this can be a skill or knowledge area, something that another team member can ask you about) (ii) a question you may have about your role, a project you’re working on, or one about working at the organization, (iii) something personal about yourself such as interests, or hobbies.

  • Give everyone ~5-10 minutes to contribute a sticky notes to each of the three questions.

  • Using a round robin format, have each team member share their three responses to the group. Good time keeping will be required to ensure everyone stays to an allotted time. As the facilitator, you can let everyone know that they have 90 seconds to share and you will jump in when the time runs out! Don’t be shy about interjecting, as you want to ensure everyone has an opportunity to share.
