AI Fundamentals for Academic Research

Series Description

The AI Fundamentals for Academic Research series is designed to empower researchers with the knowledge and tools to effectively integrate AI and generative AI (GenAI) technology into their academic work. Through webinars and hands-on workshops, participants will explore the applications and limitations of a variety of AI tools for searching and summarizing literature, writing, analyzing data, and more. The series positions AI as a supportive tool to enhance scholarly work rather than a replacement for expertise and critical thinking.

Objectives

  • Gain a foundational understanding of GenAI and its applications in academic research
  • Learn techniques for effectively using AI tools to support various aspects of research
  • Discuss the ethical and legal implications of using AI in research
  • Develop skills to critically evaluate the outputs generated by AI tools
  • Cultivate a critical mindset towards the use of AI in academic research, ensuring thoughtful and responsible application

Audience: In general, this series is open to researchers from all disciplines and with any level of experience using AI tools – including no prior experience at all. Target audiences may vary between sessions as certain tools or research processes may be more relevant to specific audiences.
