About

Background

DRI@UT was created at the University of Toronto by the Vice-President, Research & Innovation and Strategic Initiatives in 2021.

The University of Toronto seeks to enable the creation and sustainment of a coordinated, responsive and secure digital research infrastructure and services that are tailored to meet the diverse needs of our research community. This initiative is driven by the DRI Council and the DRI Advisory aligning with Canada’s Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) Strategy and opportunities generated by governmental initiatives and strategic partners. 

The key objectives of the DRI@UT Initiative include:

  • enhance awareness of strengths and gaps in existing U of T digital research resources & services
  • make recommendations on issues, directions and opportunities related to the University’s participation in digital research services
  • share information to support coordination and alignment of divisional and central investments in DRI
  • engage in and stay abreast of local, Provincial and National DRI initiatives
  • provide resources that allows researchers to access, use, and share data, including with external partners
  • advise on best practices in privacy and cybersecurity across all DRI domains at U of T
  • coordinate internal communications on DRI resources and opportunities
  • provide support and training opportunities in the use of DRI resources
  • provide guidance and inform institutional advocacy on DRI matters. 

DRI@UT Researcher Council

Mandate

  • To advise on institutional decisions.
  • Explicitly tasked with bringing an academic user lens to the identification of opportunities and challenges in the application of DRI across all fields of research, academic divisions and campuses.
  • Members will be invited for staggered terms of up to three years.

DRI@UT Advisory Committee

Mandate

  • To support institutional planning and decision-making regarding digital research resources and services at the University of Toronto.
  • Bring a strategic operations lens geared toward supporting identification and implementation of solutions that support the University’s research objectives. The Committee will also provide institutional oversight for SciNet.
  • Members will be invited based on their DRI-related role within the University by the Vice-President Research & Innovation and Strategic Initiatives – either on an ex officio basis in relation to their role, or for time limited terms based on their expertise.
