Acceleration Consortium – CFREF Funding and Program Session

Session Description

June 15, 2023 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Purpose

Join us to learn about the Acceleration Consortium’s (AC) $200M grant from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) and how faculty and students can participate in AC infrastructure and programming, including training, partnerships, and $23M in funding opportunities.

Agenda

Part 1- Overview of AC and CFREF grant (20 min)

Part 2- Q&A (20 min)

Part 3- Networking reception (45min) (in-person only)

The Acceleration Consortium (AC) at the University of Toronto is leading a transformative shift in scientific discovery that will accelerate materials development and commercialization. The AC is a global community of academia, industry, and government that leverages the power of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, materials sciences, and high-throughput chemistry to create self-driving laboratories (SDLs). These autonomous labs rapidly design materials and molecules needed for a sustainable, healthy, and resilient future, with applications ranging from renewable energy and consumer electronics to drugs.

In early 2023, the AC received a $200M Canada First Research Excellence  Fund for seven years to develop self-driving labs for chemistry and materials, the largest ever research grant to a Canadian university. This grant is part of a $500M project ($200M from CFREF and more than $300M in matching funds)that will provide the AC with seven years of funding to develop scalable SDLs, use these SDLs to develop materials for sustainable and health applications, and examine the ethics and economic impact of the industrial adoption of SDL.
