Attending and presenting at an international research conference has been a mainstayfor academics – an opportunity to engage and debate with expert colleagues, re-connect or reach out to spark and advance new collaborations. With the limitationson travel due to the global pandemic, we are challenged to re-imagine theconference experience in a virtual world.

This is thefourth session of the Making &Sustaining the Pivot Series

In this session, panelists will share theirfirst-hand experience with planning and hosting virtual research conferences.The discussion will address leading practices in creating an engaging and collaborative experience for conference delegates and event participants. This session willbe useful for researchers who might be considering shifting to a virtual optionto support collaboration and knowledge exchange events with peers andcolleagues.

  • Nick Reed, Associate Professor, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of Toronto; Adjunct Scientist, Bloorview Research Institute, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
  • Rebecca Liu, Research Associate, Women's College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV).
  • Mark Embrett, Health System Impact Fellow, Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and Dalhousie University.

At the end of this session, participants will:

·       Identify best practices in facilitating collaboration and engagement in online research conferences

·       Find resources at U of T to support transition to online conference
