CBRCanada Community of Practice: Introducing the Community Engagement Continuum for Transformative Practice

Session Description

February 10, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

Community of practice meetings actively bring together CBRCanada members from across Canada and beyond to engage in meaningful discussions. All involved in community-based research are welcome, whether you are a researcher, peer-researcher, student, project coordinator, administrator, director, or community leader. The purpose of the community of practice is to network with others, learn from each other, and exchange best practices.

The upcoming Community of Practice will invite researchers and practitioners to engage in an interactive discussion on ‘community participation’. Guest speakers Julia Fursova and Gillian Kranias will share a brief presentation of findings from their participatory action research and introduce the Community Engagement Continuum that features indicators for a technocratic vs. transformative community engagement process. The findings were recently published in a peer-reviewed publication written in co-authorship with community partners. Guest speakers will lead a discussion for participants to critically reflect on community participation process and its’ impact on who is participating, why, with what money and whose time.
