In Conversation With…Visiting Topics in EDI in Research & Innovation is a series of discussions with experts at University of Toronto on how to embed best practices and strategic EDI approaches within the research and innovation ecosystem. Each session will be hosted by Dr. Nicole Kaniki, the inaugural Director of EDI in Research and Innovation, and she will be joined by guests from across the tri-campus for these conversations.

Session 2: In Conversation with... Ike Okafor and Dr. Andrea Boggild

For this session Dr. Nicole Kaniki will have a conversation with experts who have successfully developed a recruitment strategy to attract, retain, and provide support for career development for trainees from underrepresented groups. She will share best practices and considerations for developing trainee programs that are inclusive and considers the unique experiences of trainees from underrepresented groups that often contribute to the “leaky pipeline” and the lack of representation on the faculty level and within leadership in companies and organizations for those who pursue careers outside of academia.
