IP Matters: Health Innovation
Session Description
June 9, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT
Learn about intellectual property considerations for research, commercialization and startup creation across health innovation in software, hardware and diagnostics / interventions. This session will be moderated by Tamara O’Connell, Patent Portfolio Manager from U of T’s Innovations & Partnerships Office and will feature real-world insights from medical and legal experts, researchers and start-up founders. The second half of the session will feature a “camera’s off, Ask Me Anything” opportunity for attendees.
About the IP Matters Series
As part of the University of Toronto’s IP Education Program and in partnership with the Centre for Research and Innovation Support (CRIS), the “IP Matters” Series is a practical and interactive series about intellectual property, designed to inform and educate student, alumni and faculty innovators about real-world considerations. This series will bring together subject matter experts, industry leaders, inventors and entrepreneurs to discuss emerging trends in IP, present case studies, and highlight relevant applications of concepts explored in the IP Education Program modules.

- Learn about the relationship between the university, affiliated hospitals, and founders as it relates to ownership of intellectual property.
- Gain practical advice and strategies from field experts on medical software, hardware and diagnostics / interventions in intellectual property.
After this session, you will be able to:
- Identify many of the most relevant issues, challenges and opportunities related to intellectual property in the health sector.
- Identify where to go within the university to
receive support and when it makes the most sense to engage the IPO.
