What is a Data Management Plan and Why Do I Need One? – Jun. 23, 2022

This workshop is intended to provide a basic overview of Data Management Plans(DMPs), a tool often used to lay a foundation for good research data managementpractices through the life of a research project and beyond. This workshop will cover a basic overview ofthe components of a typical data management plan and share resources availableto support researchers and their teams to get started.

Starting later this year, DMPs may be required for certain Tri-Agencyopportunities. More informationabout Tri-Agency requirements will be available as these funding opportunitydetails are released later in 2022 and 2023. This workshop will not address the specific Tri-Agency requirements fordata management plans, as the details have not yet been released.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe why managing research data is important
  • Identify common elements often included in data management plans
  • Locate resources and supports for developing a DMP
