An important process in preparing for a facilitated session is to identify relevant participants who bring subject-matter expertise, diverse perspective, and innovative thinking. Key questions to consider in establishing an effective group session:
- Which individuals are required to participate in order to achieve the session objectives?
- Delineate those who are required to participate versus those who should be informed.
- How many participants should be in attendance?
- What role will each participant engage within the session?
- How do distinct personalities influence the discussion?
- How will group dynamics, such as unexpected conflict or resistance, impact success of the session?
- How can diversity of thought and perspective be supported?
