An important process in preparing for a facilitated session is to identify relevant participants who bring subject-matter expertise, diverse perspective, and innovative thinking. Key questions to consider in establishing an effective group session:

  • Which individuals are required to participate in order to achieve the session objectives?
    • Delineate those who are required to participate versus those who should be informed
  • How many participants should be in attendance?
  • What role will each participant engage within the session?
  • How do distinct personalities influence the discussion?
  • How will group dynamics, such as unexpected conflict or resistance, impact success of the session?
  • How can diversity of thought and perspective be supported?
    • Consider Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Practices for Team Composition and Training
