Webinar and Discussion – SSHRC Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative: Addressing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Considerations – Sep 28, 2021

Session Description

September 28, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm EDT

The Division of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (VPRI), will host an interactive online session for applicants to the SSHRC Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative (RGDI) program. This session is designed to support researchers and divisional research support staff as they develop partnerships and proposals for the RGDI competition. The content will build on the upcoming (September 21) SSHRC-hosted webinar and will focus on strategies and advice to address Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) considerations in these partnership applications. The webinar will also be relevant to prospective SSHRC Partnership Grant applicants, as SSHRC’s Guide for Addressing EDI in Partnership Grant Applications will inform future Partnership Grant competitions.

The session will provide a brief overview of the EDI requirements and expectations for the RGDI competition. Presenters will focus on strategies and considerations for effectively addressing EDI considerations in both research practice (EDI-RP) and research design (EDI-RD). They will provide examples of effective practices and approaches, and advice on integrating these considerations into your proposal. The session will provide generous time to address participant questions and discuss strategies relevant to individual proposals.

Presenters

  • Sarah Scott, Research Funding Manager, Research Services Office
  • Andrea Gill, Research Equity & Diversity Strategist, Research Services Office
  • Nicole Kaniki, Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Office of the VPRI

The webinar content will build on the material presented at the SSHRC webinar on the Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative planned for the week prior to this webinar (September 21). Participants are encouraged to attend the SSHRC session in preparation for this VPRI webinar.
