Join UTM at the Collaborative Digital Research Space (CDRS – MN3230) from 9am-4pm daily on December 11-13 for a three-day writing retreat. Bring yourself and your current writing project. Any stage of writing is welcome! The retreat will include some facilitation followed by free writing time. This writing retreat is open to faculty, postdocs and graduate students.

Now you can complete a certificate in digital humanities! cc:DH/HN is a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)-funded initiative to offer a certificate in digital humanities for people who participate in non-curricular digital humanities workshops. This certificate, open to anyone regardless of citizenship or country of residence, recognizes people who have taken 100 hours of digital humanities workshops over a five-year period. You can find eligible workshops from partner organizations — including the Critical Digital Humanities Initative! — on the cc:DH/HN events calendar.

Research Data Management is a term for all the things that researchers do to structure, organize and maintain data before, during and after doing research. RDM is also an emerging discipline that is concerned with researching and developing ways to manage research data more effectively. But what is research data? Where is the push towards formal Research Data Management coming from? What are the requirements of good data management? Research Data Management in the Canadian Context: A Guide for Practitioners and Learners looks at these questions and more, all with a focus on Canadian guidelines, regulations and infrastructure.

This 2-hour workshop will provide a forum for participants to learn more about data licensing and copyright. Led by Learning and Training Manager Shanna Hollich from Creative Commons, this event aims to equip participants with the knowledge and best practices they need to effectively navigate the complexities of data licensing and copyright.

Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive 4: Music – Folk, Rock & Hip Hop includes publications devoted to major genres of 20th-21st century popular music, such as Hot Wire (1984-1994), Paid My Dues (1974-1980), and Vibe (1993-2014). Of interest to scholars in music, performing arts, production, and media studies.
Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive 5: Video Gaming includes over 40 titles spanning from the 1980s through 2020, such as Computer & Video Games (1981-2004), PC Gamer (1994-2020), and Edge (1993-2020). Of interest to scholars in game studies, media studies, equity and diversity in media, digital arts and design, and cultural studies.
Mass Incarceration and Prison Studies collection provides resources for exploring global trends in mass incarceration and the detailed prison infrastructure of specific countries. The collection includes a selection of archival and reference materials, court cases, first-hand accounts, videos, Supreme court audio files, and more. Of interest to scholars in legal studies, justice and conflict studies, sociology, political science, and prison history and reform.

The Division of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation (VPRI) is pleased to announce that the University of Toronto Research Account (UTRAC) is now live. UTRAC is the first part of a multi-phase initiative named My Research Funds (MRF) that will modernize the University of Toronto’s research funding administration tools. UTRAC is the successor to the Funded Research Digest (FReD) and serves as the primary tool for users such as Researchers, Business Officers, and Academic Administrators, to access detailed information about funded research awards.
