‘Canada’s Innovation Advantage’: 6 Leading Researchers Join U of T via Federal Initiative to Draw World-Class Talent

Six world-leading researchers are joining the University of Toronto through the federal Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs of Canada program, part of a $1.7-billion initiative to draw top international talent to Canada and strengthen the country’s capacity for research and innovation.

Appointment of Kristina Öhrvall as Assistant Vice-President, Research Services

Kristina Öhrvall has been appointed as Assistant Vice-President, Research Services (AVP-RS), effective October 1, 2026. She joins U of T from McGill University, where she currently serves as Assistant Vice-President, Research Development. As AVP-RS and a member of the Vice-President’s executive team, Öhrvall will play a critical role in providing strategic advice, guidance, and institutional leadership to advance the University’s research enterprise.

The Map & Data Library (MDL) reopens on September 8 in a newly renovated space on the fifth floor of Robarts Library, with expanded facilities for GIS, data analysis, visualization, programming, consultations and collaborative work, along with the return of in-person consultations and drop-in hours.
