Women’s Studies, Part 4: Female Forerunners Worldwide collection includes resources focused on advertising and media, women’s health, the Civil Rights movement, religion, migration, women in politics, and prison reform, among many other topics. This installment to the archive focuses mainly on the U.S., Britain, and Australia, but extends regional coverage to many other countries such as South Africa, Philippines, Germany, India, China, and Canada, among others. Of interest to scholars in women and gender studies, women’s history, sociology, media studies, political science, public health, and equity studies.
Victorians on Film collection includes restored and digitized films from 1895 to 1901 that depict Victorian society. The collection features films from prominent filmmakers such as R.W. Paul, G.A. Smith, W.R. Booth, and others. Some events captured on film include Queen’s Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, music hall acts, dramatizations of reality, and depictions of nature. Of interest to scholars in film studies and history, media studies, digitization and preservation, British history, and sociology.
Gender, Feminism, and the British Left, 1944-1991 collection contains records compiled by the Communist Party of Great Britain’s (CPGB) Women’s Department from 1944-1991. Records include minutes, agendas and promotion materials from campaigns, events, and conferences. Also included are digitized copies of Link, the party’s magazine, along with Red Rag, a journal published by the party’s militant feminist members. Of interest to scholars in women and gender studies, equity studies, social and cultural studies, media studies, British history, and political science.
Marxist History and Historians in the 20th Century collection includes the personal papers of Dona Ruth Anne Torr (1883-1957) who was an accomplished Marxist historian, translator, and activist. She was also the founder of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB). Records also include her research notes and other materials relating to her biography of labour activist Thomas Mann. The collection supports the study of Marxist historiography and the social history of the British labour movement. Of interest to scholars in British history, labour movements, philosophy, political science, women’s studies, and cultural studies.
